University and Astronomical Society Launch Meteor Education Project

A unique partnership between the University of Alberta and the Edmonton Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada have just launched a project for students in Alberta public, junior and high schools that will make the blaze of meteor trails in the sky part of their educational experience.

The project will use FM radio receivers to detect meteors as they pass through Alberta skies. Every day dust and very small pieces of comets fall into the Earth's atmosphere lighting a trail as they burn up.
